And he likes the consequences
And I'm falling...down
Well he's driving his car to fast to see
And he likes the consequences
In this pleasure kingdom where all is crowned
Well he's pulling my pants too far to feel
And he likes the consequences
"Orange" might be the best song on Building a Hole, if for no other reason than its novelty. This song is a musical painting of my mischievous comrade Robert McLendon Eaves, III. He transferred to Westover High School in our Junior year. I had Trig with him. He was very slow to come out of his shell. At first he was inept and quiet. I took him under my wing by inviting him into my circle of friends. He lived down the street from Marc and wasn’t too far from me either. We encouraged him to try out for the Forensics Team, the speech and debate club. Over that first year, he slowly bloomed into a gregarious gentleman. However, by the time we were Seniors, something had gone awry. He had somehow become arrogant and a little too comfortable in uncomfortable situations. He was a madman, especially with the ladies. One afternoon, he approached me in feigned confusion. I asked,"What’s up?" He replied, "Um, I was hanging out with so-and-so, and I think I gave her an ‘O’." "An O?," I replied. He began to elbow me lightly in the ribs. "You know, an ‘O’," he said. "Robby, what the hell are you talking about? You gave her an orange? What?," I said. I was rather loud considering it we were out of class illegally roaming the halls at the time. Then, he just burst into uncontrollable laughter and stumbled away. Once he was a well out of view I said to myself, "He gave her an orgasm." That story, coupled with the fact that he loved to drive fast and he "pantsed" me in front of my friends one day at Wrightsville Beach, is what inspired the song. Thanks, Robby. Call me.
Well he's building a hole
And he's falling down
Away from this crowd
Well he's building a hole
And he's falling down
Away...from here
He's thinking thirst he quenches
Orange hand and finger
And he likes the consequences
He's thinking thirst he quenches
Orange hand and finger
In this pleasure kingdom where all is crowned
And there's not enough time for two face
Not enough face to erase
So he takes to this time...away
Away from this town
Well he's driving his car to fast to see
Until the crash and, he takes away
He's thinking thirst he quenches
Orange hand and finger
Well he likes the consequences
He's thinking thirst he quenches
Orange hand and finger
And I'm falling...down
And there's not enough time for two face
Not enough face to erase
So he takes to this time.away
And he's laughing yes he's laughing
And we're throwing his heart too far to see
And his mind, is a stack of dimes
He's thinking thirst he quenches
Orange hand and finger
Well he likes the consequences
He's thinking thirst he quenches
Orange hand and finger
And I'm falling...down
In this pleasure kingdom where all is crowned
And there's not enough time for two face
Not enough face to erase
So he takes to this timeaway
