Lampshade Girl
Building a Hole (1994)
Written by J. Garrigan

The grass we sat on
Told me the same things the waves did
Crash on the beach
It said Son I got something to tell you
So keep this close at hand

It is too late it is too early.
Why should I even worry about you
My Lampshade Girl

A good friend of mine told me
That love is patient love is kind
And love is worth waiting for
In my heart somewhere on my mind
I had toconcur
All the trains running round

Is it too late is it too early
Why should I even worry about you
My Lampshade Girl

Hoping she would give me the key
To her hand heart and happiness
Humiliation took over me
Maybe in a year or two
I guess I'll have to break ground...
And concur all over again

Cause it's not too late it's not too early
I guess I'll go ahead and worry about you
My Lampshade Girl

Mike Garrigan on "Lampshade Girl":

My brother Jay contributed a lot to the final session for Building a Hole. He played electric guitar on "I Lied." He also wrote "Lampshade Girl," the only song on an album of mine which I didn’t have a bit of writing credit. I enjoyed having him in the studio with me that day. We had fun. "Lampshade Girl" came out great. I always liked his version better, but I wanted to give my own interpretation a shot.
